According to the AS 1345 - 1995 'Identification of the contents of pipes, conduits and ducts', pipe markers shall be used in the following circumstances (clause 7.3.1):
- where hazardous identification is necessary
- where there are many pipes in the area with the same identification colour but with different contents and where confusing one with the other could have serious consequences
- wherever a pip need to be identified quickly in an emergency
Pipe markers shall be located adjacent to all junctions, valves, service appliances, bulkheads and wall penetration and at spacing not greater than 8 metres along the service (clause 9.1).
